Atlantic Heating Up...As we approach the anniversary of Katrina & Isaac (Aug. 29th), it is comforting to know we have no tropical system that will threaten us this Labor Day Weekend. There is a well defined UPPER low just south of Miami, but we have learned that upper lows usually mean too much wind shear for any surface development. That is not the case way out in the Atlantic where satellite loops are indicating an area of low pressure is getting better organized. NHC hasn’t made it an “invest” yet, but I’m pretty sure they will tomorrow. In fact I would not be surprised to see it named TD # 7 (or even TS Gabrielle) as T-Storm tops have bloomed (cooled) during the past few hours. Computer models don’t do much with this system, but they do develop the one behind it coming off of Africa. Regardless, by the time they work they way across the Atlantic we’ll be well into September and more east coast troughs are coming which should turn these systems east of Florida and not into the Gulf. Again my thinking is the Hurricane Threat this year, and they will be several, will be well east of us and more likely up the east coast of Florida northward to the Carolinas & New England. Sandy was not just a once in a lifetime storm. History shows us back during the ‘50s & 60s, many storms went up the east coast. Stay tuned! Locally, the big weather news is the dry air resulting in pleasant nights. Enjoy as the muggies return for this weekend. Bob Breck
