Atomic Prepares for Seasons Last Leg Bob Crace, Sr. Race Postponed to October 4 Late Models Paying $5,000 to win/Sprints $2,500 To Win! Championship Night October 4 Fan Appreciation Night September 27th By Scott Wolfe CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-The Bob Crace, Sr. Memorial Race slated for Saturday, September 20 has been postponed until October 4 according to Owner/Promoter Brad McCown. Atomic Speedway will run its next race September 27 as a salute to the fans that have supported Atomic since its reopening last fall. General Admission for Fan Appreciation Night #2 on the 27th will be just $5. Atomic Speedway fans and Atomic Speedway drivers deserve the best, said McCown. Despite all the work we do on the track, it just has not been up to Atomic Speedway standards. In fact, it has been rough in places. We want to get it right for everyone, so we are taking a week off to resurface the turns and try some things we havent tried before. But on September 27th, fans can expect a great show and drivers can expect a first-class racing surface. The track crew and I have worked hard, but we are going to work just a little harder. Expect a great race on the 27th and then on October 4 we are going to host a huge night of racing on Champions Night and the Bob Crace, Sr. Memorial for Late Models. We hope our fans and drivers stick with us. We are looking at a strong finish to 2014 and an even bigger 2015. Lots of rain early played havoc with the schedule and the originally planned NDRL three-day weekend. The track surface came together with close, competitive racing and several track records being broken in all divisions. Then somewhat of a drought hit the track and even dried up the infield pond for the first time perhaps since the tracks beginning. New clay was also added and as McCown admits, It just didnt mix with the existing surface. On Fan Appreciation Night #2 race fans will get to see two premier divisions plus two strong support divisions for the low price of just $5. 410 Outlaw sprints will be on hand for $2,000 to win, plus the AMRA Late Models will be on hand for a $2,000 to win show. Additionally, AMRA Octane Modifieds will race for $1,000 to win, plus the Dreadlands Haunted Woods Enduro. Title Sponsors are Gullion Enterprises for the Late Models, Pine Tree Towing and Recovery for the Sprints, Advanced Services Heating and Cooling for the Modifieds, Racers Edge Supplements for the Street Stocks, and C & M Racing Equipment for the Sport Mods. The Dirt Track Racing Championship Series (DTRC) will run its inaugural event at the October 4 Bob Crace, Sr. Memorial as part of season championship night. The DTRC is the brainchild of longtime race promoter Mike Jewell. As part of this event Jewell will be presenting the winner with the Legendary Trophy that is on display at Atomic. The DTRC is designed to bring together the best late model racers in the region. Signed on for the initial roster are Doug Drown, Zach Dohm, Shannon Thornsberry with potential support from Jerry Rice, Erik Wells, Joe Meadows, and Greg Johnson among other regional stars and Atomic Regulars. There will be a point fund in 2015 and a Series Champion will be crowned. Look for this roster to grow as the series touts some national racing stars. Twenty-one cars will start the feature. This starting car count will bring a 21-car salute to the track for a parade lap to honor fighting men and women all across the globe. The gesture will honor those currently deployed and also those who have previously served our country. Also, this night the 410 Sprint cars will run for a potent $2,500 to win purse. Some of the best open wheel names in the business are slated to be on hand as Atomic has averaged nearly 30 cars per night all season long. October is a big month for Atomic Speedway. Plans are being finalized for one of the biggest events in open wheel racing nationwide--The Open Wheel Championships on October 23-24-25. That event will pay $15,000 to the winner of the 410 sprint main, plus $5,000 to the non-wing sprint winner, and $5,000 to the AMRA Modified winner. Additionally, non-qualifiers will race for $2,065 to win in the Charlie McCann Memorial.
