Atta baby -way to represent ! Lincoln rallies for win over Godby After four innings and two trips through the lineup, Lincoln softball coach Terese Gobers team had nothing to get excited about. But with Godby holding a 3-0 lead and its pitcher Kyaira Brown beginning to labor in the fifth, the Trojans turned the tables on their challenging opponent. Lincoln put up four runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth, pulling out a 9-4 win on Wednesday night. She is a dang good pitcher. She was spinning the ball, she was mixing it up on us, Gober said. It took us two times through the lineup to get our timing down to be able to string those hits together to score some runs. Godby (8-6) pounced early with two runs in the first, scoring on a double steal and an RBI single by Chasitie Hart. Brown added a run-scoring hit in the third to plate Madison Gorman (3 for 3, double), building the Cougars a lead. Theyre a good-hitting team, so we knew coming in wed have to play an almost perfect game to win, Godby coach Terrence Brown said. We made a few mistakes, but the team fought well. Im happy with the effort. The Cougars chased Lincoln starter Morgan Matthews on the strength of five solid hits, but Talia Snider (9-2) came in and worked out of trouble even when she did allow baserunners. Cydni Jenkins, Matthews, and Jordan Crawford all had consecutive hits in the fourth, with Matthews and Crawfords hits driving in runs. Lincoln (13-4) picked up another big RBI from catcher Rachel Reaves in the inning, reversing momentum and giving the Trojans a lead after bewildering at-bats on previous go-rounds when the ball was put into play sharply but right at Cougars fielders. We all knew we had a job to do, and I guess we just kind of got mad in the last few innings, Reaves said. We know we have to score first. Its frustrating because we know we can hit the ball, were all over it and then they catch it. It makes us more mad and were more fired up to hit the ball. Eventually you get it in the hole and it carries on to the next person. Matthews and Gabby Ekberg drove in runs in the fifth before Reaves cleared the bases with a double to the wall in left, all but securing victory. Ive been due for a long time to get a big hit, Reaves said. I just did it for my team. I had a job to do and it was my time to rise up and do it.
