Attend a FREE Rent Stabilization Workshop: “Primary Renovation Program & Tenant Habitability Plans - Covers requirements for a Tenant Habitability Plan and How to apply for passthroughs for Primary Renovation." This workshop explains provisions of the Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO) which allow landlords of rent-stabilized properties to apply for rent adjustments for “Primary Renovation” work. Primary renovation is work on a major structural system (foundation, electrical, plumbing, mechanical) or the abatement of hazardous materials (lead, asbestos). The Lead Hazard Remediation Program, which aims to reduce lead exposure & targets families with children under 6 years of age, will also be covered, including State and Federal rules and sanctions that regulate renovations, repairs and painting, as well as possible financial assistance. Since renovation work may result in temporary or permanent displacement of tenants, the workshop also explains the requirements for Tenant Habitability Plans required by Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety’s plan check process. Successful application of these programs allows owners of RSO properties to obtain a permanent rent increase. The workshops will be presented by the HCIDLA’s Rent Stabilization Division, as well as a guest speaker from the Coalition for Economic Survival who will present information on the Lead Hazard Remediation Program.
