Attended the FARE Jacksonville Symposium today (wonderful and well-done!). Learned two things that I thought Id share: 1) the entire panel agreed that there were no adverse side effects to giving the epi if it wasnt necessary but major ones if you second guess yourself and dont when it is necessary (in fact, one allergist said, If it crosses your mind...use it!), and 2) there is a drug that apparently completely blocks the IgE from attaching itself to your cells (which makes ana impossible) but it is not FDA approved for food allergies so docs cant prescribe it unless you have major asthma (and it costs $24,000/year on its own!), which makes me angry that we potentially have a pill that could solve the threat of death and yet cant get access to it. :(
