Attended the screening of Captain Philips at Dubai Mall which held as a fund raiser for the Flying Angels which is a non profit organization that provides much needed support to seamen including counseling for those that have been kidnap victims by pirates. Although we have seen a decline in piracy of the coast of Somalia the Gulf of Guinea has become the new hot spot where pirates cease vessels carrying refined fuels and sell it in the black market. However over the past 8 years the Somali pirates have earned an estimated 500m from piracy - kidnap for ransom which has fueled other illegal activities such as arms and ammunition, drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc. although seen as a business piracy is equivalent to terrorism and must be treated as such. The same tactics used to combat terrorists must be used against piracy requiring military action in most cases including but not limited to drone and surgical strikes.
