Puff Pastry Wrapped Apples Virtual Bistro Catering Puff Pastry Wrapped Apples (Bake at 350 for 15 minutes) 8 small Apples (Gala) stem still on 1 pk Puff Pastry Sheets 1 cup All Purpose Flour ¼ cup Dark Brown Sugar 1 stick Chilled Unsalted Butter 1 cup Rough Chopped Pecans 1/8 tea Almond Extract (Vanilla can be used if you like) Cinnamon & Nutmeg 1 med Egg for egg wash White Sugar for sprinkles In a medium bowl combine finely cubed chilled unsalted butter, flour, pecans, brown sugar,Cinnamon and Nutmeg and flavoring extract. A paste will start to form. Set aside. Select apples with the stem on for appearance. Use a small melon ball-er to core out the seeds of the fruit. Try to keep as much apple inside. Only remove the seeds. Stuff the cavity with the pecan filling. Cut a small square about 2”x 2” from the puff pastry sheet. Place the bottom of the filled apple on the pastry and stretch the sides coming upward. Press into the apple to make it stick. Cut another piece of pastry about 2 1/2”x 2 1/2” and make a small slit with the tip of the knife in the center of the square. Place this piece of pastry over the top of the apple. Guide the stem through the small slit made in the pastry so that is sticks through. Carefully stretch down the overlapping pastry to meet the bottom portion. Repeat until all of the apples are covered. After they are all covered, leaves can be made with the remaining dough. Brush the covered apples with an light egg wash and sprinkle with white sugar. Bake on a parchment covered cookie sheet in a 350 degree oven for 15 – 20 minutes until golden brown. Enjoy a neat holiday treat! Looks impressive with little effort. Your guests will love you!
