Attention Imagine Home Nation We recently set up a transport - TopicsExpress

Attention Imagine Home Nation We recently set up a transport for 4 cats who are going to Suzys Zoo in St. Stephen, SC. As we feared, people are questioning our decision to participate in this transport. We understand your fears and are hoping to aleviate them with the following statement. We are aware of the allegations made against Suzy Melton of Suzys Zoo. We have stayed silent up until this point. The fact is, we have worked with Suzys Zoo since we were admins at URRKN. We find Suzy to be honest and forthright. Suzys Zoo has been inspected by investigators with the State of South Carolina and continues to operate without being cited for any violations. Suzys Zoo has passed vet checks and a rescuer from Staten Island Hope of NYC did a full tour of the facilities this past summer. Several Imagine Home drivers have been able to visit Suzys Zoo and have been satisfied by what they have seen. Suzys Zoo does no advertising, minimal fundraising and has managed to survive by word of mouth. While a mistake may have been made in the past (and by no means are we minimizing a mistake that had tragic consequences,) we are confident that all of Suzy Meltons dealings on behalf of Suzys Zoo are above board and meant to ensure the safety and health of the cats she is entrusted with. Mistakes are made by everyone in life. Its the nature of humans. We believe that mistakes are the key to learning and creating our best possible selves. Imagine Home requires all cats transported to be spayed or neutered before transport. The only exceptions that are made are when an cats health would be placed in jeopardy. Examples of that are cats who have a birth defect that could mean that anesthia would cause a heart attack or stroke, or cats that will remain under 5 pounds for the entirety of their lives. Imagine Home also requires all health certifcates to be faxed or emailed to an admin before the transport can start. There has been one case in our recent history where we waived that requirement, and that is because the cats life was in jeopardy and it was an emergency transport. The fact is, Suzys Zoo is a sanctuary for FIV+ and FeLV cats. This sanctuary is a necessity because of a lack of education about co-existence amongst positive and negative status cats. Until such a day exists that we no longer have to find homes for cats who are deemed unadoptable, we can and will continue to transport cats to sanctuaries, such as Suzys Zoo. ~noelle
