Attention Pharmacist Friends: Sorry for a long post, but I need some guidance and help. As most everyone knows, I suffer from chronic back pain. The pain is severe when standing for long periods, regardless if I work 8 or 12 hour days. Pharmacy is obviously my profession and my means of income. Duh. And retail pharmacy obviously comes with a set of job requirements, such as standing for long periods. I get it. Most retail pharmacists must stand for long hours without getting to use a stool most or even a small amount of time. Its getting to the point that I can no longer do this (Im only 31). I dont foresee me being able to do retail for 25-30 more years. I have only practiced in retail since graduation (6.5 years). I need to eventually change my path in pharmacy so I can continue working without excruciating pain from standing up for hours on end. Any suggestions? Most positions other than retail require experience in that field. And I realize that pharmacist jobs are getting harder to find because so many are graduating now. Should I consider a residency? Would I even be accepted for one 6.5 years after graduating pharmacy school? I need some options for my professional future and am looking to my pharmacist friends for guidance. Thanks for any help!
