Attention Teachers and Parents: Lets say that you were given - TopicsExpress

Attention Teachers and Parents: Lets say that you were given the opportunity to address a boardroom of people known to hold a Pro Common Core stance. (I know this sounds like something out of a horror film, but bare with me.) All of their Pro Common Core information has been fed to them by the likes of John White and the Chamber of Commerce. For whatever reason, they are NOW ready to hear the other side of the Common Core tale. (Makes me wonder if they realize that their ship is sinking.) They want to hear from a real teacher/ parent and they only want examples of how CC is not living up to its promise at a variety of grade levels. They do not want to hear about how it was created, or brainwashing, or any of the other so called tin hat theories. (That still leaves a whole lot to talk about.) Here are some of the topics that are still on the table for discussion: workforce training, globally competitive, closing the gap, LA low ranking, ELA issues, Math issues, CC is not teaching to the test, better standards, critical thinking skills, developmentally inappropriate, emotional effects on children. I have a little something on each of these topics, but Im looking for specific examples that could be used to sway a tough audience. If you could pick one or a couple of issues and send me your personal experience or thoughts in a private message, I would be grateful. Deadline for contribution is Tuesday night (July 8th). Thanks in advance.
