Attention all Property Owners, Important information regarding Midwest Propane Supply Crisis. Midwest propane suppliers are scrambling to keep customer tanks filled as propane supplies have sunk to historic lows. This reduction in supply has caused prices on propane fuel to more than double in the past several days. The propane shortage is attributed to a combination of the late, wet record harvest that occurred this past fall when large quantities of propane were used to dry crops; and with the record freezing weather at the start of the 2013-2014 winter season. Propane prices in the Midwest region are the highest since 1990. Due to the extreme shortages of propane, distributors are filling resale customer storage tanks, such as the one at Woody’s True Value, on an allocation basis established from each customer’s summer purchase figures. This means distributors are unable top off the storage tanks used by retail suppliers and are only allowing a certain percentage to each customer. Because of this allocation, this leaves us with the real possibility that we may run out of propane at some point over the next few weeks, despite the fact that we are paying almost twice as much for a gallon of propane than just a few days ago. We are taking proactive measures to help decrease the possibility that we run out of propane, including contacting propane suppliers outside of the Midwest for delivery, if needed. This propane shortage will most immediately affect Woody’s winter “Keep Full” customers, of which there are approximately 160 on this program. Woody’s “Keep Full” Program was developed to provide customers with regular propane tank checks and a top off or fill as needed. However, because of the current supply crisis we may find it difficult, if not impossible; to meet the assurances provided by the program. If you are a winter “Keep Full” customer and have not yet been contacted by Woody’s, please call us at 815-849-5107 to discuss options and obtain more information about the current propane crisis.
