Attention all comedian chums and lovers of comedy! I need your feedback! Ive finally found rare footage of possibly Britains first alternative stand-up comedian from 1971- a chap called John Paul Joans ( not to be confused with the Led Zep bassist). This guy was doing Lenny Bruce style comedy on the Northern working mens club circuit in the early 70s. Hes not exactly side-splitting, but neither was Lenny Bruce! Whats amazing is to see him have the balls to do free-form improv comedy about heavy subjects in front of a Phoenix Nights crowd rather than do a bunch of old pub gags. Has anyone else heard of him?
