Attention jazz vocalists! I am offering a class in the Spring - TopicsExpress

Attention jazz vocalists! I am offering a class in the Spring through Joyful Noise that focuses on the skills necessary for a jazz singer to musically thrive. The class will focus on memorizing standards, music theory, transposition, improvisation, rhythmic, melodic and harmonic exercises, and ear training in the jazz idiom, as well as creating and arranging charts. It is my belief that every singer should have the same capabilities as the instrumentalists in this area. This class could be summed up as, "Instead of giving a singer a fish, teach them how to fish." There is so much wonderful vocal talent in WNC, and it is my hope to bring vocalists into a state of musical freedom and power through increased knowledge about music theory and performance practice. Teaching is my passion, and I find no greater joy than helping someone achieve their goals. Here are some testimonials I have received: “Chloe is going full-steam ahead on the composing. Please tell Jason that the information about how to write a harmony, chords and music complementary to the melody gave her enough direction to practically shoot her out of the church. She has been working on her music constantly since the “compose 8 pieces assignment.” She leaves her violin out and plays any time she is in her room (she plays for 5-50 minutes 3-4 times a day depending on her schedule). I haven’t seen her getting into her music like this since she was determined to do all of Book 4 in a summer or maybe the first time she was in a chamber group. Thanks Jason! She needed the boost.” Kristen Dotti “Good grief you are an AMAZING teacher!!!! Thank you for class today and making me believe I might actually be able to do this.” Wendy Jones For more information, please contact me at (828)273-8254.
