Attention to those who have a non working fuel gauge!! I just ran into this this week. Took off my gauge for the millionth time (without disconnecting the battery) and this time I had just filled up and my gauge read nothing! Turned key on and off several times, disconnected and reconnected gauge and sensor plugs, left battery off overnight. Each time I turned the key I had NO movement of fuel needle. Well I was doing a cdi change today so I had battery unplugged after I did that I got into dash again. This time I took gauge out of chrome and set chrome aside. Plugged gauge back in and tinkered, and came across a idea. I unscrewed the 4 screws that hold gauge together and split top half of gauge enough I could move fuel needle. I spun fuel needle past full marker and turned the key on and..........wala! Needle wiggled and shot forward then jerked right back! ITS ALIVE!!! Try it out. Simple 5 minutes , no money spent! I didnt want to unplug it again so I reassemble gauge and chrome without unplugging it. Now every time I turn ignition it goes threw normal check and back to where my fuel currently is. FYI I was removing tint I put inside and out of gauge lens a few years ago and I am replacing it with a darker tint.
