Attitudes towards animal rights in the EA movement: In Robert - TopicsExpress

Attitudes towards animal rights in the EA movement: In Robert Wiblins summit talk, he estimated that about 80-90% of EAs are concerned about animal suffering (I dont know if thats exactly how he phrased it, but it was something like that). This appears to be correct to me. I know a few people like Eliezer deny that non-human animals are sentient, but as far as I can tell that is very much the minority position. Or is it? Getting an accurate picture of what peoples premises are seems to matter a lot for knowing how to approach, for example, the debate over what food to serve at EA events. Should the debate be viewed as a debate over tactics, priorities, etc. or do the disagreements run much deeper? EDIT: I interpreted Roberts talk as saying 80-90% were at least *somewhat* concerned about animal suffering. Certainly, the number of EAs who expect that thats one of the main areas where they can have the highest impact is much lower. But for purposes of debating where we think we can have the highest impact, it would be nice to first get clear on what peoples goals are. Probably EAs need to get better at separating the questions (1) what do you care about? (2) what causes do you think are plausibly highest-impact?
