I just want to offer a solution to a problem that you may not be aware of. i personally am not asking for a hand out,, my cousin Rebecca Winner has graciously offerred 1500 dolars to help us buy at least something for the 500 kids we minister to, but there are so many more than 500.... the numbers are growing daily as we continue to show God´s love to these little guys.. I love Bolsa Samaritana, and Operation Christmas child... here´s why about 20 years ago, winnie and i rented a taxi to go into the city dump of Managua (la chureca). This was before it was popular. NO MISSIONARIES WENT THERE; NO WORK WENT ON INSIDE TO HELP THE PEOPLE,, IT WAS NO MANS LAND, EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. The taxi driver hated me because the contra war had just ended. He was a sandinista sniper. He said when he saw me, a big fat gringo, ´enemigo de la humanidad´, all he saw on my bald fore head were cross hairs. He charged us a huge amount to take us to the dump,, he thought we were completely out of our minds,, when we flagged him down he thought we wanted to have him take us to a beach, or a fancy church or restaurant where all the other missionaries go. When we said la chureca,, he almost fainted. At that time, La Chureca looked like something out of mad max movie. When we got there, dodging the mud, swarms of kids, gangs, glass, steel, dust bowls,, burning underground fires, We handed out the operation christmas child´s boxes,, and these little kids swarmed us, almost tipping over the taxi.. and left... without saying thanks. Napoleon, the taxi driver, (cc´d) was outraged. As we left, he asked me ,, what was the point of this?´´ the kids were happy, but they´re going back to their sad miserable plastic tents on a garbage pile only to live an agonizing life, and die a horrific death.. we had one christmas box left in the taxi after the riot. Out of no where, as we were trying to maneurver the taxi OUT,, without getting stuck in the mud, or dust bowl, of fall into an under earth fire, or a flat tire on all the steel scraps and broken glass and burning tires, a little tazmanian dirt devil (just like in a cartoon) came out of no where, just running along side of us... bare footed (IN A GARBAGE DUMP), naked.....determined look on his face to get something from us.... running out of desperation thinking we were going to give him 5 cents or half of abottle of water or half of a can of coke or something.. ..I whislted him over, and gave him the shoe box, told him that Jesus loved him and this was Jesus´ Christmas present to him,, HE WAS ALMOST DRUNKEN WITH DELIGHT!!!! literally staggering backwards,, he was dumbfounded! , and he took off running, about 100X happier than he had ever been in his life,, and he was about 12! he was running like a fox, Leaping like a gazelle over the horizon into sunset. ´why do we do this Napoleon? ´ I asked, ´ we did all of that, to get to do this!´ Napoleon was amazed,, he gave his life to the Lord and is now National Director of OWANSA children´s ministry at Verbo church. i fell in love with samaritan´s purse then,,and will always love them for the rest of my life. I dedicated my time in Nicaragua to help Dexter do his ministry of love. I even was the shoe box cop,, helping dexter track down bad pastors who were gutting the shoe boxes,, taking out the stuff to sell on the black market, andburing the tracts, bibles, and boxes, and christmas wrapping to hide the evidence- I say all this to say, I don´t know what´s going on,,I have heard nothing after six months of phone calls, emails, handwritten lettters, friends letters, etc.etc.etc.etc. , but other than your kind reply, NO COMMUNICATION has been made to me nor to any other pastors concernec except that IF you want samaritan´s purse gifts for the children, you have to unite with the sandinista communist party. Dexter is off the grid,, he runs a bank in Puerto Cabezas, a 16 hour drive from here, in the dry season,, I´ve done it.. he doesn´t answer his phone, nor does he answer any emails, not even the ones you´ve given me. I have been told by various sources that in Managua, if you´re not a party member, it appears you get no boxes for the poor children. He is a friend of mine for the past 20 years,, but he is gone. sorry for being blunt, but this has been going on since last July. Lots of pastors are experiencing the same thing... if the pastor isn´t comunist,, his church gets punished. I am pushing this because I love Samaritan´s Purse, Operation Christmas Child and Franklin Graham. I love what you guys are doing, but the nationals in charge down here (without Dexther´s leadership) are very difficult to deal with in this area. Like I said,, the few kids i deal with ARE going to get presents because of the generosity of my cousin,,, but lots of kids are going to be very dissappointed this year.
