Attn (but not limited to) high school teachers and parents - The State Board of Education is seeking input from educators and community members as it restructures graduation requirements due to changes in state law, House Bill 5 (HB5). HB5 created the new Foundation High School Diploma and students pick one Endorsement. Endorsement allow students to focus on specific areas of study. The endorsement areas are 1) Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM), 2) Business & Industry, 3) Public Services, 4) Arts & Humanities, 5) Multidisciplinary studies. The SBOE must make a number of policy decisions, such as determining the courses for each endorsement. Submit specific course suggestions (to [email protected]) that will give school districts the flexibility mandated in HB5. Also, the SBOE will hold a public hearing Sept. 17 in the Travis State Office Building in Austin. tea.state.tx.us/Communications/Press_Releases/2013_releases/SBOE_seeks_input_on_new_graduation_plans/
