Attorney Alex Barker has filed suit in federal court against #Capella University of Minneapolis MN. alleging breach of contract and violations of PAs Consumer Protection Act. Capella is an online for profit university. The Firms client, a teacher, was enrolled in the doctorate program at Capella. Capella strung her along to harvest her student loans and then abruptly dismissed her from its doctoral program. Our client owes hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans. Interest is piling up on those loans. The breach of contract claim stems from Capellas failure to deliver what it promised--competent and continuous guidance in completing her doctoral program by creating and submitting a dissertation to meet Capellas standards. Our client suffered through various mentors, all of whom did not meaningfully assist her in submitting an acceptable dissertation topic. Certainly, it should not have taken Capella 8 years to decide whether our client was incapable of completing a doctoral dissertation. We believe that our client was capable of completing a dissertation if had she been working with educators who had the skills and presence to assist her, as was promised. It appears that Capella was more interested in student loan money than in educating our client. PAs Consumer Protection Act protects PA consumers from businesses that promise services and dont deliver the same via unfair or deceptive trade practices. Alex has alleged that Capella did not deliver the mentoring and other educational services it promised our client. Treble damages and payment of legal fees are available if our client prevails in her lawsuit. Students need protection from predatory online universities and training businesses that promise educational services that are not delivered Steele Schnieder supports Alexs efforts to hold educational businesses and for profit universities accountable for the promises made to students. Students should not be incurring deep debt only to be the victims of broken promises made by those whose intent it is to mislead them into borrowing hundreds of thousands of dollars on dreams of a career or a degree that ends up being either elusive or a bald misrepresentation of skills and careers promised.
