Atwell - Southfield, MI Purchasing Specialist The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for purchasing, materials management and planning, coordinating, and scheduling receipt of all equipment and materials for the firm’s construction operations. The Purchasing Specialist is also responsible for the management and purchasing needs of the firm’s fleet operations, facilities management, and purchasing needs for the firm’s professional services operations. In this role, the successful candidate will be expected to develop a moderate efficiency level within the following: TYPICAL DUTIES Works with superintendents and foremen to plan, organize, and schedule material and equipment deliveries concerned with various construction projects. Initiate and maintain liaison with vendors and other contacts to facilitate purchasing activities. Writes purchase orders according to company policies, processes, and procedures. Negotiates best vendor terms, pricing and delivery based on specific budget and schedule requirements. Represent the company in project meetings and attend strategy meetings. Work with project managers and project accountants to manage financial aspects of contracts to protect company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the customer. Maintain organized warehouse and inventory records. Formulate reports concerning such areas as material costs and purchase order status. Establish project objectives, policies, and performance standards within boundaries of company policy and contract specifications. Confer with supervisors and foremen to discuss matters such as work procedures, complaints and construction problems. Manage material buyouts. Manage a fleet of vehicles for multiple companies. Assist in facility and asset management when needed. SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE / EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s or equivalent degree/experience combination Approximately 4 years of experience as a Purchasing Specialist Previous experience in the mining construction and professional services industries is highly preferred Experience with Sage and Deltek Vision software is a plus Knowledge of administration, management, and construction materials methods, and tools Excellent mathematical skills, including application and use in problem-solving Develops innovative ideas and incorporates them effectively into work processes Excellent written and verbal communication skills required Must have good command of the English language, oral and written Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and the Internet Experience working in a multi-company environment helpful.
