Audhubillahhiminashshaytanirrajeem BismillahhirRahmanirRahim. The example of those who take allies other than Allah is like that of the spider who takes a home. And indeed, the weakest of homes is the home of the spider, if they only knew. [Quran, 29:41] Seeking Refuge in Webs That Entangle Us Assalamu alaykum brothers and sisters. Sometimes it can be so hard to be patient, especially when tests and trials seem to be drawn out indefinitely, with no end in sight, as often seemed the case in the life of Musa. How do we know that Allah (swt) has not abandoned us? The temptation is great to seek refuge in lesser powers. Created things like the spider’s web can be complex and beautifully engineered, but those who seek refuge in created things rather than in the Creator will only become hopelessly entangled. An effective antidote to the temptation to seek the help of lesser powers is to read and reread the stories of those who like Musa have endured hard trials for long periods. We can also remind ourselves of what Allah (swt) has brought us through in our own lives. We can even keep journals that relate our own struggles and how Allah (swt) enabled us to overcome. Today let me develop enough sabr to endure the tests before me, without resorting to seeking the help and refuge of powers inferior to Allah (swt). Let me learn to trust Allah (swt) to fulfill His promises, no matter how long it takes! Ameen.
