Audition Opportunity in Seattle with Corrie Befort: EMP has brought me on to stage a live version of Daft Punk’s Around the World music video by Michel Gondry for their massive party VIVID May 16th. I’m looking for 20 dancers who are down for some 90’s French electronic funk action and can pick up movement clean and fast. If you haven’t already seen this video you kinda must – it is a 1997 release of superb dorky-awesomeness that Spanish choreographer Blanca Li created with director Michel Gondry (dir. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, many Björk music videos): youtube/watch?v=s9MszVE7aR4&feature=kp (Look for how Gondry cast the characters to represent each layer of the song: mummies as beats, tall athletes for bass, disco girls for keyboard, etc. Love that.) Casting: 20 dancers cast into five quartets: disco girls, robots, skeletons, mummies and tall athletes. Requirements are that you can quickly pick up and hang onto beat-based set choreography – contemporary modern in flavor with hip-hop influences. The roles do vary technically: most require solid skills but if you don’t have a lot of experience you could be an awesome robot. Watch the video - let us know if there’s a role you think you could rock. Commitment: Rehearsals will be focused and efficient. You will have one initial Quartet Rehearsal with a second only if needed. Following that will be one Ensemble Rehearsal to bring all quartets together followed by a Spacing/Dress rehearsal on set the day before the party performance. 3 total rehearsals – each about 3-4 hours long. Required Dates: May 15th Spacing/Dress Rehearsal, time TBA but likely after 4pm May 16th 7pm Performance, 5pm Cast Call Quartet and Ensemble Rehearsal dates and times will be based on cast schedules. What EMP can offer is: free admittance to the party itself for yourself and a friend, 2 drink tickets for the night (if of age), 2 free admissions to EMP to use whenever you like and $25 to cover parking/transportation. Below are more details about the VIVID party, the special guests, myself and the amazing artists involved in making the original Daft Punk video. If you want in, email corriebefort@gmail and we’ll go from there. This is an accelerated casting so don’t wait. It is also going to be pretty fun. - Corrie Befort Performance/Party VIVID: Around the World will be performed in the Sky Church alongside OK Go introducing a new video, Beyoncé’s Single Ladies performed by Dance Belt (Waxie Moon/Ricki Mason), and possibly some Macklemore Thrift Shop entourage if not perhaps even the man himself (!!). VIVID is an elaborate, multi-dimensional all-ages opening party EMP is creating for their Spectacle: The Music Video exhibition. empmuseum.org/at-the-museum/upcoming-exhibits/spectacle-the-music-video.aspx Artists: Michel Gondry, director. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind, numerous Björk music videos including Human Behavior. Gondry was really committed to making Around the World a music video in which the structure of the choreography was the primary communicative element. He was fed up with how dance appeared only in fast-cut, disjointed snippets in most videos. Hear, hear. michelgondry Blanca Li, original choreographer. Very active Spanish artist, recently presented major work ROBOT at the Théâtre des champs-Elysées, Paris. blancali Daft Punk, band. C’mon, c’mon, c’mon - you totally know them. randomaccessmemories Corrie Befort, Seattle-based choreographer, filmmaker, dancer, designer. Co-director of Salt Horse: SaltHorsePerformance
