Audrey Davis will be missed by many !!! Today at 3:25 PM My heart aches with Audreys family. My memories of her is that she was a beautiful woman outside and inside. I had planned to go by and see Audrey when I was home in October but I failed to do so. My regrets !!! Lena Audrey Davis, a Tifton resident for the past six decades, died Thursday at her home after a long illness. She was 89. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Stephen Webb will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Mike Davis, Russ Davis, Shawn Watson, Lance Lever, David Monk and Brett Griffin will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 29, 2014, from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Davis, a native of Anderson, South Carolina, moved to Tifton in 1954 following her marriage to John Henry Davis, the longtime president of Farmers Bank of Tifton, now First Community Bank. Mr. Davis predeceased her in March 1994. Mrs. Davis was born in Anderson, South Carolina on August 5, 1924, the daughter of homebuilder Loring Brown Hembree and Irene Cox Hembree. She attended the Anderson schools and served as president of her senior class at Anderson High in 1940 while attaining various scholastic and citizenship awards. She attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and worked at the Anderson Independent newspaper during the time of the Second World War. She was married in 1941 to James Jefferson Lever Jr., who was editor of the Clemson University newspaper and later an aide to United States Senator Olin Johnston of South Carolina in Washington, D.C. Mr. Lever died in 1952. In Tifton, Mrs. Davis became active in many community organizations and was a 60-year member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the church Circle Clubs, the Tifton Garden Club and Club 55, as well as social clubs for bridge playing and dining. In her later years she also served as a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. She and Mr. Davis were avid travelers and toured all areas of North America and Europe. Mrs. Davis is survived by a large and loving family, including sons John M. (Butch) Davis and his wife Jerri, James J. Lever III and his wife Brenda, William H. Lever and his wife Michele, and daughter Rita Griffin and her husband Jack. She also is survived by eight grandchildren: John M. (Mike) Davis, Russ Davis, Lee Davis Watson, Lance Lever, Lori Lever Monk, Kathleen Lever, Brett Griffin and Kim Griffin. She also leaves great-grandchildren Matt Davis, Jared Davis, Drew Davis, Chandler Davis, Jenna Davis, John Davis, Brant Watson, Rylee Watson, Reece Watson, Lauren Lever, Aaron Lever, Hembree Monk, Lizzie Monk, J.D. Monk, Ty Griffin and Knox Griffin, and great-great-grandson Beckett Davis. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Tift Area, P. O.
