Audubon Event: An Avian Afternoon in the Country Sunday, October 27, 2013 1:00-4:00pm at Rush Ranch Nature Center,3521 Grizzly Island Rd, Suisun A fun event for everyone – Guided bird walks in the marsh, Photo exhibit--Birds of Solano County, historic ranch tour with working Blacksmith shop, informational displays & resources, and a unique opportunity to preview the upcoming Audubon publication: Solano County Breeding Bird Atlas. Join us for this special day at Rush Ranch---take a tour of this historic working ranch. Watch a blacksmith at work, see the resident barn owls, tour the kit house, take a bird walk in the marsh & adjacent grasslands, view exhibits and find out more about the activities of Audubon and the Solano Land Trust. Preview the Solano County Breeding Bird Atlas which is nearly ready for publication! See sample pages, maps & some of the beautiful photographs to be included in the book. Meet the authors, photographers and volunteers who participated in this six year Citizen Science project. Hear and share the stories of their experiences. A preliminary electronic version of the book may also be viewed. Discover more about “Hummingbirds at Home” an innovative Citizen Science project for families and people of all ages. Find details about upcoming field trips, beginners bird walks, programs and the December Christmas Bird Count. The Rush Ranch Open Space property is owned and operated by Solano Land Trust. With 2000+ acres of historic tidal marsh and rolling grasslands, it hosts endangered plants and animals, plus 230 species of birds. This event will be held in the beautiful Nature Center, with lovely outdoor courtyard adjacent to a native plant garden. Admission is free. Comfortable walking shoes suggested. No dogs please.
