August 13, 2013 HAV: This is the experience that Rachel had today. Today we had no one in the morning and I was dressed in work clothes. After I came back from lunch I went back downstairs to where I had been working and within a few minutes I heard some people come. I went home to put on tour clothes and when I came back the lady in the office said that she thought the people were Adventists, so I went into the tour assuming they were. I very quickly came to realize that they were not and so I started to change my tour to fit non-Adventists more. When we got about halfway through the Discovery Center the one lady asked how the Adventists came about and so I said that we came out of the Millerite Movement. They didn’t know anything about that and they wanted me to explain it to them. So I explained about William Miller and the Sanctuary doctrine. They all seemed extremely interested. One of the ladies then asked why Adventists kept Saturday, and then started answering her own question by quoting the 4th commandment. I then said well what is the seventh day and her niece quickly said that it was Saturday. The lady who had asked was obviously startled and said that she had never known what order the days of the week were. I could tell that she could see that the Sabbath was on Saturday but wasn’t sure how to accept that. They also wanted to know about Ellen White as they knew nothing about her. This all took place in the Discovery Center. When we went outside I was not sure exactly what I should say so I did not tell them all the stories in the first building, but by the second building I could tell that they would be happy to hear all the stories so I basically did an Adventist tour. All throughout they were asking all kinds of questions, and I had learned that they were Lutherans. I think fairly serious ones. When we went into the Parkville church and I had told the stories in there, the one lady had read the Law of God which is hanging in there and said that isn’t the Sabbath commandment the 3rd commandment. I told I was pretty sure it was not, but they said they would go home and look it up in the Bible. Before this they had asked if the Adventists had a different Bible from other churches. I had told them that no we do not, we have a Bible just like everyone else. When we walked out of the church I heard the one lady saying to the other that she needed to find out why they kept Sunday. I was happily thinking to myself “Please keep thinking” and wanting to keep more. I told them about the Great Controversy in the White’s home, but we were out of them so I could not offer them any. It made me so excited to know that those peoples visit had gotten them thinking and wanting to learn more. There is no feeling like the feeling of knowing that you have shared truth with someone and they are soaking it up wanting to learn more. I can only pray that these people will keep digging for truth and accept it. I ask that you please join me in prayer for the five guests that I had today.
