August 15, 2013 A key of the profit: “He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.” ~Proverbs 16:26 (KJV) This scripture is saying to me that a person is driven to work to satisfy his own personal appetites and desires. The business application is to teach us the power of incentive. If team leaders have a difficulty getting team members to perform a certain duty or task then create an incentive. People love to get rewards for their accomplishments. These incentives don’t necessarily have to be expensive things but you can provoke action from team members with a “Frappuccino,” or maybe some bonus passes for a concert! Giving workers incentives for advancement can positively change their enthusiasm level while working; it gives them something to look forward too, to strive for. There was a time when it was difficult to find MAT members who could communicate in proper business vernacular with guest. This prevented many MAT members from finding employment in the “front of the house” working areas. Now, it seems we have overcome this “language barrier” because I see many MAT members in those working areas. The incentive for them I’m sure was a better paying or more dignified position. Being a “Guest Service” industry, the frontiers for excellent service are extraordinarily vast but the reward is what makes our reputation. ~fred
