August 15, 2014 – Friday Psalm 133:1 How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity! CONFESSION OF GUILT I used to tell my congregations that they could figure out the amount of sinning the Pastor had done by the amount of silence he observed during the Order of Confession and Forgiveness. I must confess that I am guilty of dividing Christians into two camps. Those camps being Liberal Christians and Conservative Christians. I really do need a better way of describing my sisters and brother’s theological stances. In our world today we make clear political distinctions and thus divide people into categories of liberal and conservative. There is no such thing as a Conservative Christian or a Liberal Christian. We are united into one body which is the Church. We may disagree on interpretation of the scriptures, believers or infant baptism, or even what the elements at communion mean. We must look for what unites us rather than divides us. Regardless of the labels people try to place upon Christians we are united in this simple statement. Jesus Christ is Lord. Prayer: Lord Jesus, through your death and resurrection you have united us into one great body we call the Church. Help us to refrain from designations that separate the church and your people. Amen.
