August 15 Recruitment of 15000 teachers and 500 lecturers in Punjab government schools and colleges will be done at the earliest to fill up all vacant posts in state. This was disclosed by Sikander Singh Maluka, Minister for Education, Higher Education and Languages, Punjab, while addressing the gathering in the 67th anniversary of Independence Day at local Police ground despite rough weather condition today. Recruitment process for 15000 vacant posts of teachers in schools and 500 lecturers in colleges would be started soon. Earlier, Sikander Singh Maluka unfurled the national flag and took march past salute from BSF, Police, Home Guards contingents, NCC cadets, scouts and girl guides in an impressive parade. To raise the standard of education two new universities were being set up in Punjab. Rs 50 crore were being spent on the renovation of 46 government colleges during current financial year whereas Rs 100 crore would be spent for modernization of these colleges during next financial year. To provide higher education to 3500 students who had attained above 80 per cent marks in 10th class, model schools at Jalandhar, Patiala, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhatinda and Mohali with a cost of Rs 60 crore would be opened. To provide higher education to students of rural area of Hoshiarpur district, 21 schools had been upgraded to high standard by spending Rs 12 crore. To improve the basic infrastructure of these schools Rs 25 crore had been spent. Punjab government was providing Rs 1.76 crore annually for the maintenance of 235 high and secondary schools in Hoshiarpur district. Students players of Hoshiarpur district won 12 each gold, silver and 10 bronze medals and secured second position in Punjab school games for which players performance should be appreciated. To provide employment and make youths self employed a polytechnic college with a cost of Rs 15 crore, C-pyte centre with a cost of Rs 6 crore and Adarsh school with a cost of Rs 5 crore were being set up in Kandi area at Talwara. Sikander Singh Maluka gave 21 sewing machines to poor women, 15 tricycles and 5 wheel chairs to handicapped on the occasion. Braving the showery weather school children presented colourful cultural programme on the occasion. Government officials, employees and social workers who achieved distinctions in various fields were honoured on the occasion. ......................................................................
