August 18 Ive said before that there are many, many times when I, and we as a family, often end up looking to Riley for inspiration and to find a little extra in the grit & determination department. That is an earmark of the style he brings to the ice as well in hockey - no one liked to go in the corner with Riley. Those times seem to come just when as they are needed for us. Today was one of those days, at least for dad. Rileys unbelievable spirit and determination, while it can have its crests and troughs, always rises to the top and to the occasion. After a challenging weekend with some emotional moments and a tiring day where Riley literally fell asleep in the hallway on a cot after pool therapy out of exhaustion, he found the will to face head on the his least favourite task - eating completely with his right hand. The boxing glove on his left is an implementation of constraint theory which basically renders the good side useless in some everyday process, forcing the rehabing patient to lead with and use the weaker side, in this case the right hand for Riley. Its not pretty but there is some real progress here over even a day or two ago. Liam assists a little but Riley leads the way. This kid of ours is a keeper.
