August 19th, 1975 The Spinners were hitting THE BIG 8 charts with one of their biggest. They Just Cant Stop It (The Games People Play) debuted this week in 75. The single, was written by Joseph B. Jefferson, Bruce Hawes & Charles Simmons and produced by Thom Bell. Released in 1975 from the groups album Pick Of The Litter, it featured the lead vocals of Bobby Smith with Pervis Jackson & Barbara Ingram. Backing vocals came from Phillippe Wynne, Jackson, Henry Fambrough, Billy Henderson, Ingram, Carla Benson & Yvette Benton. Instrumentation was added by members of MFSB. The song was recorded at Phillys Sigma Sound Studios and released in early August of 75, the song became a huge crossover hit, reaching #1 on Billboards Hot Soul Singles ... #2 on the Billboard Easy Listening survey ... #2 at Cashbox ... #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 ... and, #21 on the Canadian RPM Singles chart. They Just Cant Stop It (The Games People Play), was certified Gold for sales over one million copies by the RIAA. The songs performance at CKLW, was equally as strong. From its debut this week at #11, it went to #4, #3, then spent five weeks at #1, and remained on The Big 8 Top 30 charts through November.
