August 2014 To: Grimes Community Residents Regarding: The Grimes Community Food Pantry (GCFP) The Grimes Community Food Pantry continues to see an increase in families participating in the monthly assistance food program. In the month of May we assisted 42 families with a total of 140 individuals, June we assisted 44 families for a total of 170 individuals and in July we assisted 51 families for a total of 215 individuals. The families receive non-perishable food items which can be viewed online plus a food voucher to the Grimes Fareway. Large families (5 or more individuals) and medium families (3-4 individuals) receive a food voucher for the following: 2 lbs. ground beef, 2 loaves of bread, 2 gallons milk, 2 dz. eggs and 1 pkg. American cheese. Small families (1-2 individuals) receive 1 of each of the above items. Our Fareway bill runs from $1,000 to $1,250 a month. The GCFP also gives out a complete Christmas meal food box in which we seek food and monetary donations for. The Iowa Food Bank has been low on basic food items that we purchase at a reduced price. Recently items have been purchased at a higher price out of necessity. We currently need assistance to fulfill our mission of serving the needs of our community. As you consider your donations to a local non-profit organizations, please keep the GCFP in mind. Donations may be mailed to the Grimes United Methodist Church, 801 W 1st Street, PO Box 737 or can be made online at grimesumc/food-pantry.cfm . Check the online list of food items you may wish to donate. Food items can be dropped off at the church Monday through Thursday, 9:00am - 2:30pm. Please contact Elaine Knudtson if you have questions regarding the GCFP at 515-986-9765 or elaineknudtson@gmail. We thank you for your continued support. We can not do this outreach mission without you.
