August 20th of last year I was contacted by a shelter to see if I would be willing to take in a small, abandoned, sick Yorkie girl. Her owner did not want her back due to all the dogs health issues. The shelter was a terrifying place for this little girl so I said yes. It was , as always, Cracker Jacks: just never know what youre getting into you get down deep :) So that was the day Lizzie came into all our lives, all 4 pounds of her. Yeast infection, hair loss, kidney failure, liver failure, dental disease, you name it, she was the prize that would eventually shine brighter and brighter with each passing day. Thanks to all of you, the wonderful vets at HornLake Animal Hospital and the vets at Mississippi Vet School she will be celebrating what we refer to as her Re-birthday. Her life began on that day. She has melted many hearts, has become a symbol of determination, brought together people from all over that were pulling for this 4 pound dog and of course gives the best Friday Finale reports of her fellow brother & sister-dogs. Our other wonder girl is Bubbles. Many of you know her, and as with Lizzie have come to fall in love wit her. Bubbles came to TOH at eight weeks old with hydrocephalus, aka water on the brain. Her life expectancy was three months. This year she will be three years. Though our wish was for her to find a forever home of her own we understand many people are just a bit nervous about taking on a dog with this type of disability. She will always be a bit slower than the others, never become housebroken, and like the movie 50 First Dates each day is a new day :) But thats Bubbles, and she is what she is and we love her for it. So we have lots of beautiful stories , lots of amazing before and after pictures and the best of all: many Happy Tails. But when a dog comes to us with so many odds against them and they prove they have more fight in them than anyone would think, well heck: those are the best stories ever. So Happy Re-Birthday Lizzie, and Happy Re-Birthday for the third year Bubbles....you two girls are awesome!
