August 21, 2014 ECONOMIC STRANGLE-HOLD The Camerounese minister - TopicsExpress

August 21, 2014 ECONOMIC STRANGLE-HOLD The Camerounese minister of trade has promised hell to any book dealers who should sell books at prices higher than the prices the said minister fixed last year. The minister has not told the world on what economic theory he banks to fix prices in a free economy that revolves fundamentally on offer and demand. Nor has he justified himself why in the face of “increase” in salary, hikes in fuel prices and in transport fares he should impose the status quo ante to Camerounese and especially Southern Cameroonians in the book sector. Mr. Minister claims that his strangle-hold on the economy in the sector is in aid to ordinary Cameroounese parents who have to send their children back to school. Where was Mr. Minister when the government sent fuel prices up by 14%? Does not the minister know that in some countries ministers voluntarily surrender percentages of their salaries to national causes? Does the minister not know that one-year cuts in public budgetary appropriations for ministers’ fuel, entertainment, mission allowances and furniture by as little as 20% can provides text books to all the pupils/students in Cameroun plus Southern Cameroons for more than five years? Clap-traps, clap-traps, clap-traps all the time! But who cares? Na we we!
