August 22, 1968: Ringo quits The Beatles during the White Album sessions. Ringo felt that he was playing like shit and the constant bickering and tension between the band became too much for him. The news of his departure was kept secret, and he rejoined the sessions on September 3, after the other three Beatles assured him that he was needed and loved. When he comes back he finds that George has festooned his drums with dozens and dozens of flowers. While Ringo was gone, the remaining Beatles recorded Back In the USSR with Paul on drums and John playing bass.
