August 22 games (Old Campus) The RDAK Transporters solved the riddle that was the Goldberry Suites as they upset the powerhouse squad, 54-49, in the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association Mivesa Cup last week at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue. The win by the Transporters put a halt to Goldberry’s seven-game rampage through the rest of the field and gain a tie for third place in the standings with the Gaisano Capital. Goldberry fell to a tie for first place with the Insular Square with the two teams holding identical 7-1 (win-loss) records. RDAK mustered five points in the first period to fall behind 10-5. However, they retaliated in the second canto and outhustled Goldberry 13-6, for an 18-16 lead. The Transporters remained in front, 32-29, at the end of the third period and got a heroic effort from Rhett Tomakin who scored nine of his 11 points in the final canto to help vanquish Goldberry. Tomakin added five rebounds and three assists even as Junie Alejandro, himself a former player of Goldberry, stuck it to his old team with 11 markers, eight boards, four assists and two steals. Justin Huang led the way for Goldberry with 20 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. In other games, Insular Square routed the A-Team, 76-58. Job Shan and Deo Araneta led the cause with 14 points apiece while Karl Gajudo added 11 markers. The loss sent the A-Team further down the bottom of the barrel with their eighth loss in as many outings. Gaisano Capital meanwhile, got 14 points from Jan Galo to help beat Milco Eggs, 71-50. Gaisano, which also got 10 each from Patrick Jacobe and Gino Manoloto, pushed their record to 6-2, the same as RDAK’s. Milco fell to 4-4. In other games, the reigning champions Cebu Landmasters kept their rhythm as they blasted the San Jose Bakeshop, 83-35. After a slow start that saw them drop their first two games of the competition, the Landmasters have found their game and are now at 5-3. John Lery Chik paced the Landmasters with 15 points while Christopher Consunji added 13 to send San Jose Bakeshop to their sixth defeat against just two wins. Lastly, Alberto’s Pizza rose to 3-5 after they beat the San Remegio Aguilas, 52-36. After winning their first game last weekend, the Aguilas went back to their losing ways and fell to 1-7.
