August 27-- “At the Break of Day” The hymn, “Have Thine Own Way, Lord,” is a great prayer of surrender and commitment. Here’s the first stanza. “Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Thou are the potter, I am the clay! Mold me and make me After Thy will, While I am waiting, Yielded and still.” At age 40 in 1902, Adelaide Pollard felt compelled to go to Africa as a missionary but was having trouble raising the necessary funding. Discouraged, she attended a prayer meeting where she heard another woman pray, “Lord, it doesn’t matter what You bring into our lives, just have Your way with us.” At home that evening she reviewed the story of the potter’s house from Jeremiah 18 and thought, “Perhaps my questioning of God’s will shows a flaw in my life. So God decided to break me, as the potter broke the defective vessel, and then to mold my life again in His own pattern.” She then sat down and wrote the well-known invitation hymn. Today, from the depths of our hearts, let us offer ourselves similarly to God. Bro. Steve
