August 5, 2013 Break-in suspect caught napping in St. Andrew Catholic Church... David Hurst dhurst@tribdem JOHNSTOWN — Upper Yoder Township police didn’t have to look far to find the man they accused of breaking into the St. Andrew Catholic Church rectory late Saturday night. They arrived the next morning to find him sleeping inside, Officer Gary Eisenhuth said. Police said Lee Edward Sager of Richland Township forced his way into the church by kicking in the front door and then spent time in a rectory living room before falling asleep in an empty bedroom upstairs. Police said Sager told officers he spent the night drinking at a Windber bar and didn’t remember how he got into the church. Eisenhuth said he found markings on the broken entry door from Canyon River Blues walking shoes that matched Sager’s shoes. He said the shoes were photographed as evidence. The church’s pastor, the Rev. Angelo Patti, told police it did not appear anything was taken from the rectory. But police estimated $500 in damage was inflicted on the door, door jamb and molding. Sager was lodged in Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of his $10,000 bond. He is charged with burglary, criminal mischief and criminal trespass. A preliminary hearing date was not set as of Monday afternoon.
