August 5th, 2014. Weather Highlight(s): Drier westerly flow - TopicsExpress

August 5th, 2014. Weather Highlight(s): Drier westerly flow aloft starting to creep into the PacNW. This should result in less lightning today as well as shunting it into southern portions of eastern Oregon. The flow will be increasingly onshore through the rest of the week making for daily breezy conditions along the east slopes of the WA and northern OR Cascades as well as the Col Basin. After a couple of days of minimal lightning, lightning likely to increase some about Friday as a weak Pacific trough moves onshore. Fire Potential: Light to moderate lightning IA activity expected in south central and SE Oregon today and then should pretty much subside until about Friday when the thunderstorm threat again increases a bit. Burning conditions will be moderating to pretty normal levels. The potential for new large fires expected to be LOW for the next few days as lightning activity decreases significantly. T. Marsha Preparedness Level: Northwest = 5 National = 4
