August 8th, 1943, William Wade McElroy, known by many as Mack, was born while his father was serving in the Army during World War II. At age 4, he watched as they buried his infant baby sister. At 16, he told his then girlfriend, later to be his only wife, I dont think Ill live to see 30. In 1961, he graduated from North Jonesboro High School as Valedictorian and went on to West Georgia College for a year, taking Business Administration. November 20th, 1961, he married Joyce Elaine Jones, his high school sweetheart. September 1962, they had his first child (me) and February 1966, they had his first son, Eddie McElroy. At age 26, he watched as they buried his Grandfather and again only weeks later, he watched as his own Father, who committed suicide, was buried. Fulfilling his own prophecy, he died just 10 days before his 31st birthday. His short life ended before the end of his 30th year, dying July 29th, 1974. His last words were the Lords Prayer. He drew his final breath receiving his final wish, in answer to his final prayer... I would rather die than have a permanent Colostomy My memories of Daddy were filled with the smell of fresh turned dirt, axle grease, and Old Spice. He was in incredible pain every day of my life. I never saw him that he wasnt hurting from Rheumatoid Arthritis. I bear witness to the fact that everyday before he left for work, as Mama helped him dress, he literally cried from the excruciating pain he was in. To help relieve his pain, he ate Anacin APF (Arthritis Pain Formula) like it was candy and he drank Schlitz Beer, but I never recall EVER seeing him drunk. He was admired by many. He was revered in his circle of friends as the man to go to for advice or help and also as a Man you dont want mad at you. He was handsome, honorable and humorous. He was quick witted, intelligent and a man of his word. He was a hard working man who loved his family. his farm, and his Fords. To me, he was 10 feet tall and bullet proof, my Superman, my hero, My Mack and my Daddy. Rest in Peace, Daddy. I know you are now whole. I will always love you. I will always miss you. I will do my very best to always honor your memory. O:)
