Aurora tonight, hopefully! There is a minor geomagnetic storm (G1 out of 1 to 5) under way, which may give lucky high latitude observers a decent show tonight. Here are maps of the average predicated range of aurora. The shaded areas refer to the locations where the aurora will be overhead. Aurora form high up so they can sometimes be seen as far away as 250 miles or 400 km away from the auroral oval. The green line indicates where aurora can be seen on the horizon. Note that these are predications. Aurora come in bursts of activity. They may not extend as far as these maps show or may extend farther.
