#Australia #Auspol Keep the door of hope open for asylum seekers this Christmas @ASRC1 #Refugees #Asylum 11 November 2013 Dear Labor For Refugees Member I am forwarding this appeal to you because the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre does such an important job of supporting asylum seekers. We urgently need one million dollars this Christmas to secure the long-term future of the ASRC and to keep the door of hope open for asylum seekers in Australia. Your donation will make it possible for us to care for more than 4,000 asylum seekers in 2014. The worst time in 30 years to be an asylum seeker in Australia • Pregnant women being deported to Nauru • More than 1,000 children in detention facilities • Right to appeal to be scrapped • 22,987 asylum seekers in the community with no right to work, living on $3 a day • Temporary Protection Visas reintroduced Its no wonder the government is trying to stop the media from reporting whats going on ─ its committing the worst human-rights abuses against asylum seekers in modern Australian history. ASRC forced to locate to new premises On top of this the ASRC faces a huge challenge of its own. We are being forced out of our home in West Melbourne, right when we expect a 300% increase in demand for help. Our door is not closed, though. We will not be beaten. We will rise to the challenge. Now, more than ever, we need your leadership and courage. With your donation to our Home of Hope Christmas Appeal we will prevail The good news is that we have found a new home in Footscray, three times the size of our current centre. From this new centre we will be able to help three times as many asylum seekers. With your help we will continue to deliver 23 life-saving programs as well as open our new Innovation Hub that will empower asylum seekers to live free from poverty. The new centre will allow us to continue our Hot Potato Campaign which champions attitude and policy change and to launch our new Food Justice Truck ─ a mobile foodbank that will travel across Melbourne. Moving will only be possible with your donation. Be a founding member of our new home of hope. Thank you for keeping the flame of hope burning brightly in the hearts of all asylum seekers this Christmas. Kon Karapanagiotidis OAM CEO and Founder Community run. Community owned and funded. Keep us fiercely independent, now and forever. Regards Nizza Siano Secretary L4R NSW email: Labor4RefugeesNSW@gmail
