Australia Day Races - 26 January 2015 The heat might be on at the moment but the recent rain has excited the Goondiwindi Race Club as they prepare for the Great Aussie Race Day and Inglewood Cup on Australia Day, Monday January 26. The Inglewood Cup feature is now in its fifth year after the Inglewood Chamber of Commerce reinvigorated the concept and once again, a good crowd is predicted with a courtesy bus from Inglewood for local supporters. Interested residents should contact Geoff Lyons, the Inglewood Chamber of Commerce president on 0427 623564. Racing will commence at 2 pm with the five event program expecting good nominations. With Clifford Park closing for a couple of weeks, it is expected that extra Toowoomba horses will participate in this great annual event. “The club is already prepared for a big day, similar to the very successful Xmas Party Race Day where groups can book a tent and enjoy the atmosphere of Country Racing on Australia Day. There will be plenty of tents and undercover facilities and extra watering points available for the horses which are paramount in summer racing. “The on course stables will all be operating from the bore and the track proper by town supply so there should be no shortage of water” President Michael Watt explained today. “We have encountered plenty of hot Days on Australia Day in the past and we got through so we don’t envisage any problems this year either”. A number of parties have pre booked for the day so a reasonable crowd is expected. Groups wishing to reserve a tent should contact Club President Michael Watt on 0428 657053. Tent bookings are essential and it will also assist with catering requirements for the day. Like the Christmas Party Day, the club is hoping to have jumping castles and entertainment for the kids as well as the usual amenities supplied at a Country Race Day.
