Australia adventure Day 8: Long busy day today. I originally thought I would just post my reflections on some of my observations from my 2 days in Sydney with my daughter Jacki and her bf Brendon. Then I found out that Im being interviewed on the local radio station and then I saw that I made the front page of the local paper. lol! Sorry Narrabri, but you really must not have much going on the give me that much undeserved attention. Anyway, first my observations. If these seem random its because they are. First the two pics I posted: 1. People pay about $175 to cross the Sydney Harbor bridge, but not the normal way, they hike OVER the bridge. Hard to see them but groups of a dozen or more go over continuously. Go figure! (and you thought $13 to cross the GWB was outrageous! 2. Apparently they have zoning laws that require buildings in the city to have a certain amount of foliage on the property. A few buildings got clever (? not so sure I like this look) and have ivy growing down the sides. You decide. Random observations: -bars that offer food have no table service. You order and pay at the bar and take a number to your table, ala Panera Bread. -Food is smaller (not cheaper, just smaller), sandwiches, portions, and....people! Duuuuuh -wifi is a huge commodity here. They prepay for their gigabites in their homes and cell phones. No such thing (yet) as unlimited wifi (no, Netflix is not in Australia right now). -people walk to the left like they drive (do we do the same thing at home?). Its funny when I instinctively try and walk around someone s right side. I get strange looks...until they see my Yankees cap! Lastly, smoking. I have no idea how prevalent it is compared to the U.S. , but holy cow the government cant be accused of apathy with their warnings. The 3 pics are of the SAME cigarette pack. Oh, and they cost at least $20 a pack. Thanks to my Aussie booking agent Peter Ward for arranging my radio interview. Ill have an mp3 to post in a few days. Cheers
