Australia has one of the worst extinction rates for mammals in the industrialised world, with the Department of Environment currently listing 188 species as endangered or critically endangered. Here in South Australia, the recent State of the Environment Report showed an increase in the number of endangered and vulnerable species, as well as further declines in the state of already threatened species.
