Australian Federal Police (AFP) members from the Papua New Guinea –Australia Policing Partnership (PNG-APP) and their counterpart RPNGC officers attended Port Moresby station for a weekend cleanup working bee on Saturday 2 August. AFP Members Sergeant Adam Broadribb and Kevin Sparks arranged the cleanup day with their station counterparts, which included the Police Station Commander, Senior Sergeant Steven Lucas. Sergeants Broadribb and Sparks were joined by members of the AFP team with support from RPNGC on and off duty members and their families to give the station buildings a top to bottom cleanup. This included the scrubbing of the station’s internal and external walls, removal of rubbish and the replanting of all garden beds to make the station something to be proud of. Even a member of the public who was recently released from protective custody pitched in to assist in this valuable cleanup initiative, staying for the BBQ lunch before leaving for his home. AFP advisors working with their counterparts at Port Moresby Station have encouraged their counterparts to embrace a clean station and set standards of cleanliness and excellence that will develop a sense of camaraderie and pride in their workplace and the role they play in protecting the community. Commander Lucas and AFP Inspector John McGrath agreed that the clean up is an excellent example of the strong working relationship the PNG-APP and their RPNGC counterparts have at a station level in Port Moresby. The PNG-APP and RPNGC also gratefully acknowledge the support of local Port Moresby-based businesses who generously supported the initiative with waste removal, food and beverages.
