Australian Magpie Lark, otherwise known in these parts as a Mudlark or Murray Magpie, known in other parts (NSW & QLD) as a Peewee. This juvenile muddy, as we affectionately call them, had been grounded in a car yard for a few days. He had not been caught up as he still proved quick on his feet. Caught him up and the reason for his lack of flight is a fracture which had already begun to set. I think this bird will eventually regain flight because of the nature of the fracture but will take a bit of time and physiotherapy with his wing. Cheeky, quirky little birds, they are usually seen in pairs or at this time of year, a family group. They get their name Mudlark from the mud nest they construct. These birds are often mistaken as baby magpies that look a bit different :)
