Australian Property - suggestion made to allow FHBs to pay stamp duty on their purchases over time. I dont see how the result would be any different than giving them a grant to buy an existing home. In both situations there would likely be a rise in house prices. And in the past, the rise has often been higher than the actual grant being given to buyers. So the govt gives you $10K to buy an existing home but that increases your borrowing capacity by say $80K. And house prices all rise by $50K with eveyone now able to pay more. Made up numbers but I hope you get the point.
