Australian Raven (Corvus coronoides). One of my favourites. - TopicsExpress

Australian Raven (Corvus coronoides). One of my favourites. Handsome, super intelligent and unfairly maligned due to its similarity with artificially inflated populations of super abundant, agriculture adapted Little Raven (C. mellori). Aust. Raven is uncommon on KI, living in discrete family groups in well-spaced territories throughout tall sclerophyll forest and coastal cliffs and beaches. Coastal birds nest on cliff-face ledges!! It can be told apart from its cousin by the following: it is slightly larger; has conspicuous throat hackles (loose, spikey feathering); does not shuffle wings on landing/calling; has a long drawn out death-rattle call. It ought not be an un-protected species.
