Autonomy mooted for Manipur Nagas DIMAPUR, Nov 30: The three Naga political groups namely the NSCN under Gen. (Retd) Khole and N Kitovi Zhimomi, NNC under Z Royim Yimchungru and V Nagi, FGN/NNC under Brig. (Retd) Shingnya and Zopra Vero, met at Khehoi Designated Camp of the NSCN-Khole/Kitovi. According to a statement from the NSCN-Khole/Kitovi, it was acknowledged that the agreement which SS Khaplang concluded with Myanmar Government for the welfare of Nagas in Myanmar was necessary. “The present Government of India and NSCN (IM) dialogue which is heading towards a solution for the Naga people living in the state of Manipur was also shared and the leaders acknowledged that if Mr. Th. Muivah settles for autonomy status for the Nagas in Manipur, it should be considered as the best option at a present time,” it added. It said the leaders declared that the people of Nagaland are responsible for their own future and therefore while maintaining solidarity and social attachments with Nagas outside Nagaland state, it was agreed in principle the tribes of Nagaland must come together at all levels so that their political future is decided by themselves and not by their brethren from Myanmar, Manipur, Arunachal or Assam. The leaders decided to issue a joint statement stating that since Naga brethren in other Naga inhabited areas have decided to pursue their own political agendas, the time has come for Nagas of Nagaland to seek a political solution which would enable future Naga generations to progress with the rest of the world and live with respect and dignity in their ancestral land, the statement of NSCN-Khole/Kitovi stated.TSE
