Autopsy leaves cause of death of Brasher woman undetermined By W.T. ECKERT THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2013 ARTICLE OPTIONS AA POTSDAM — An autopsy conducted Wednesday night on the body of Kathy R. Eckstein did not pinpoint the cause of death, and toxicology and histology reports will be needed, according to St. Lawrence County Coroner June Wood. Mrs. Eckstein, 58, wife of Fred Eckstein, had been reported missing Monday, and her body was discovered Tuesday morning by a neighboring family member in a swampy area between her home and Mrs. Eckstein’s home at 54 Upper Ridge Road in the town of Brasher, police said. “There was nothing evident that jumped out at us during the autopsy to show cause of death,” Mrs. Wood said. Supporting state troopers’ statements Tuesday that there was no signs of foul play, Mrs. Wood said the autopsy showed no signs of internal trauma or medical conditions such as a heart attack. “We’re collecting all the pieces now and trying to put together the puzzle,” Mrs. Wood said. “It’s just too bad that we couldn’t find something to give us more closure.” Results of the toxicology and histology reports are expected in six to eight weeks; in the meantime, police are continuing their investigation into Mrs. Eckstein’s death.
