Autumns blood gas (your lungs do not properly eliminate the CO2) - TopicsExpress

Autumns blood gas (your lungs do not properly eliminate the CO2) is still not stabilizing. She is better on her desats but has still had a couple including down to the low 60s. We are now changing all of Autumns meds that are given in her tummy via GTube to IV if they can be changed because her tummy is just not able to handle it anymore. She is now starting comfort meds & they are discussing possible sedation meds to keep her comfortable as well if the comfort meds dont work. They still have a few more things they are trying with her but they do keep saying IF Autumn does not make it through this or it is a possibility that she will not make it through this .....but we can try this first. I asked them flat out if they felt it was time to start calling the family b/c of how unstable she is. His response was earlier today yes that would have been my suggestion but right now I think we still have room to do some other stuff before we get there but if she keeps declining then that will be his recommendation. The good news about all of this is even though she had a really really rough day they still seem hopeful they have options to get her through this. The bad news is that it is still in the back of their mind there is a possibility they may not work & we will have some very tough choices ahead of us. I have requested Autumns team of drs come together in a conf to discuss the best plan for Autumn since there is disagreements where this could all be coming from. At this point they are working diligently & hard along with the nurses to help her fight & they are not giving up. I truly love this hospital for being so supportive with us & even though we have not always agreed with each other we have always pulled together for each other & come to the best decisions for Autumn possible. I couldnt ask for a better team of Drs & nurses.
